Ezekiel 3:10 And he said to me, “Son of man, take all my words that I speak to you to heart and listen carefully.
Communicating with God is a two-way street. As we pray and cast ourselves before the throne of grace, we must remember to listen. Throughout the entire bible, we read story upon story of how God speaks to various people. Even more, remember that the Holy Spirit of God resides within us and is always on guard and poised to bring us a Word from the Lord. Listening serves two purposes, first off it shows God that you want to hear from Him. Second, it is a great tool to slow down our thoughts and not rush through prayer or other times we've committed to God.
